Innovating With New Technology
At IASIS Healthcare, we believe that technology fuels innovation. We pride ourselves in staying ahead of the technology curve, making key investments to continually build deeper connectivity and quality care across our system. Over the last decade, we spent more than $300 million equipping our hospitals with game-changing clinical and health information technology. Our system-wide electronic health record (EHR) holds more than 5 million patient records, allowing our providers 24-hour online access to clinical information, and making IASIS a nationally recognized, fully integrated multi-state hospital system.
Improving Quality Through Technology
Our advanced healthcare information and clinical technology initiatives have improved every aspect of our patient care and business processes re- sulting in:
- Higher quality care outcomes
- Improved patient safety programs and processes
- Comprehensive, real-time access to patient records
- Increased collaboration and improved productivity
- Reduced documentation time for physicians and nurses
- Stronger physician partnerships
- Robust tracking of quality and patient-outcome scores
- Enhanced financial performance
Critical Investments
- A system-wide health information platform, featuring an electronic health record that allows all departments to enter and share patient information; computerized charting for nurses; bar-code scanning to reduce medication errors; a Web-based physician portal, allowing physicians access to online patient information; and a medical imaging system that enables radiologists and cardiologists to review images digitally.
- Sophisticated business intelligence system that combines financial, accounting, human resources, risk/case management, clinical, quality and physician data into a single repository that leads to real-time and effective decision making.
- State-of-the-art clinical technology in the IASIS hospitals, including cath labs, 64-slice CTs, MRIs, tomotherapy radiation treatment, da Vinci Surgical Systems, therapeutic hypothermia treatment, hybrid operation rooms, automated labs, NICU facilities, hypobaric oxygen chambers and more.
- A new computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system that allows for the electronic and safe submission of timely patient information. This technology not only reduces paper based prescriptions which decreases medication errors but also enhances the communication to all care team members including lab and pharmacy which elevates the overall quality of care.
Connecting Our Community Of Hospitals
Few health systems can commit the necessary resources to achieve IT excellence like IASIS. We have connected all clinical departments to a single source of real-time information that allows us to make immediate and effective decisions regarding all aspects of patient care and clinical operations. We make significant investments in IT while continually gathering input from a vast cross-section of IASIS employees and keeping each project based on local needs. We also work with our leading IT partners to implement new initiatives in a quick and seamless manner, offering around-the-clock assistance and training.
IASIS continually monitors information coming from Washington, D.C. to assess our IT readiness and build roadmaps for future success. In particular, our electronic health record is on track to achieve meaningful use status as determined in The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, which was designed to push hospitals and physicians to embrace technology.
