We know what physicians want because we ask, and then we listen. Since day one, we have partnered with them to enact change, improve patient care and create strong healthcare operations. Physicians are the foundation of IASIS Healthcare and the critical link connecting our unique brand of healthcare to our hospitals, employees, patients and the communities we call home.
We have embraced numerous types of partnerships with our physicians. While the majority of IASIS physicians have a traditional relationship with our hospitals, we also employ physicians and physician extenders. Beyond providing them with employment, IASIS works with each practice and individual physician to identify ways to improve overall operations and then supports them with financing and human capital. IASIS also has established several joint ventures that include hundreds of physician owners.
Personalized Physician Recruiting
Strong partnerships begin during our recruiting process. Rather than simply filling a “quota,” we work hand-in-hand with the local hospitals to develop personalized recruitment and retention plans that allow us to understand community need and exceed physicians’ expectations. In the end, we attract top talent to our communities. Over the past five years, IASIS has recruited more than 600 physicians, with a 90 percent retention rate.
Embracing Physician Leadership
IASIS offers many leadership opportunities for physicians.
At the community level, IASIS physicians play key roles as members of the local hospital boards of trustees and medical executive committees.
At the national level, physicians play a vital role in a rigorous, long-term strategic planning process for the entire health system through IASIS’ Physician Advisory Council, which includes physicians from every hospital. This ensures that physicians across the country are actively heard and represented in our organization.
Technology That Connects Hospitals and Physicians
Technology plays a key role in every one of our physician relationships. Having cutting-edge information systems and robust clinical technology gives physicians a strong reason to partner with IASIS. Our systems help to streamline their individual practice operations and give them more time to care for their patients.
IASIS invests in new systems and platforms that bring the most sophisticated and productive technology to our hospitals and physician practices. All IASIS acute care hospitals are on the same information system platform, which connects to all physician practices through our Web-based physician portal. This leads to more accurate reporting and benchmarking and improves the overall management of the practices.
Integrating clinical needs and physician feedback has, and will continue to, play a key role in our new technology acquisition and implementation process. The development of new technology, including the IASIS clinical information system, which is anchored by an electronic health record platform containing millions of patient records, has been instrumental in improving physician satisfaction.
We have successfully accelerated the adoption and utilization of IT among physicians, making them more efficient, and improving their relationships with patients. IASIS is ahead of most hospital companies and on schedule with federal regulations in its implementation and practical use of IT solutions.
